The TJTV Crew experienced an exciting day at WKTV, where they got an insider's look at how a professional news station operates! News Anchor Kristen Copeland led an extensive tour of the studio, guiding the kids through the advertising department, control room, archives and main studio. Copeland explained how each area plays a vital role in bringing the news to local viewers.
The highlight of the tour came when the kids had the chance to sit in the anchor seats and read from the teleprompter, getting a taste of what it's like to be a news anchor. They also stepped in front of the green screen with meteorologist Eric Gage, who taught them about weather forecasting while they attempted to point out cities in the local area. Jefferson students quickly discovered just how challenging it is to accurately locate and point to specific cities on a green screen without being able to see what's actually displayed behind them!
Before the kids watched the noon news live, Gary Liberatore introduced himself and shared insights into his role as a reporter and anchor at the station. Gary even gave the TJTV Crew a special shout-out on live television and they got to see themselves on the big screen!
This trip was an incredible, hands-on learning experience that showed our students what goes on behind the scenes of professional broadcasting and the real skills required to execute on daily newscasts. Jefferson Elementary is thankful to WKTV for hosting this special visit!
